| Residents near the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital have slammed smokers who discarded dozens of cigarette ends there.
Kenny Jones, from Old Swan, walks his dog near the ?237m hospital which opened last month and photographed the cigarette butt litter near the East Prescot Road entrance.
He is calling on hospital bosses to do more to stop people smoking in the grounds of Alder Hey.
Kenny said: “Surely the hospital management have to put something in place to stop people smoking within the hospital grounds.
“I’ve now noticed that the area that the photos were taken in is covered by a security camera.
“So in this case the hospital have every opportunity to stop people from smoking.
“This is a brand new facility that’s cost millions of pounds.”
The new Alder Hey building was unveiled to the world at the start of October after a two-year construction project to create one of the best paediatric hospitals in the world.
Known as Alder Hey in the Park because it is located on part of West Derby’s Springfield Park, it contains 270 beds and 16 operating theatres.
